Al-Hadatha Newspaper

A New Consciousness for a Modernity Born of Culture

Al-Hadatha is one of the flagship initiatives of the Democratic Thought Project. It is an independent newspaper founded in the aftermath of Sudan’s December Revolution, created as a platform for journalism that reflects the country’s political and social transformations, and gives voice to the pulse of the street and the demands of the forces of change.

Launched in December 2019 under the umbrella of Dar Al-Hadatha Foundation, the newspaper embraced the philosophy of “new journalism”—where human knowledge intersects with journalistic practice to produce content that is objective, multi-layered, critically analytical, and open to local, regional, and global issues.

Our Mission

To redefine Sudanese journalism as a tool for awareness and transformation, not merely as a conduit for news, and to help shape a new political horizon rooted in objectivity, ethical commitment, and genuine engagement with the concerns of society.

What Al-Hadatha Stands For

  • Democracy is not merely a subject of reporting, but a foundational ethos that shapes the newspaper’s tone and openness to diverse perspectives.
  • Justice permeates every layer of its content—not as a slogan, but as an editorial conviction.
  • Freedom is treated as a universal human value, transcending political divisions, and granting the newspaper the courage to tackle public affairs with boldness and responsibility.
  • Solidarity with the rural and the poor is a core editorial stance, reflecting a deliberate alignment with Sudan’s marginalized majority.

A Living Digital Presence

Al-Hadatha published dozens of issues through its website, becoming a significant source of journalistic content during Sudan’s post-revolutionary transitional period. The site remains active and interactive, despite the suspension of new issues following al-Burhan’s 2021 coup. Today, it stands as an important reference for researchers and those engaged with Sudan’s democratic transition.
Al-Hadatha is not merely a witness to a moment of change—it is part of that change itself, firmly aligned with the revolution and its values, writing with critical consciousness toward a future of greater freedom, justice, and dignity.
