Al-Hadatha Magazine

A New Perception for a Modernity Born of Culture

Al-Hadatha Magazine

Al-Hadatha is a quarterly Sudanese magazine focused on thought, art, and culture. Founded in March 2016 as part of the Democratic Thought Project, it served as a platform for liberating cultural consciousness and promoting the arts as an essential force for social and political transformation in Sudan.

The magazine was founded on the belief that art and intellectual inquiry are not luxuries, but necessities—and that deep, lasting change cannot be achieved without aesthetic imagination, cultural critique, and a knowledge framework attuned to the questions of the present.

Al-Hadatha was renowned for its exceptional visual richness, featuring a wide range of work by Sudanese visual artists and photographers throughout its thirteen issues. It stands as a fully formed intellectual and aesthetic document, and a lasting source of inspiration for generations of writers, artists, and engaged thinkers.

Though the magazine ceased publication in the aftermath of the October 2021 coup, its website remains live and active. Today, it is regarded as a valuable cultural reference, housing a full archive of all published issues, available for reading, download, and print. It continues to be widely used by researchers, students, and those working in fields of culture and critical thought.
